Financial technology company Block has opened its European hub in Dublin with 300 employees, positioning Ireland as the centre for its regional expansion, according to RTÉ News.

Block, parent company of Square point-of-sale payments platform, launched operations at One Park Place in Dublin. The US-based firm was co-founded by Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey and provides mobile payment processing for vendors alongside digital wallet Cash App, music platform Tidal and bitcoin wallet Bitkey.

The office features a product demonstration laboratory, flexible workspaces and community engagement areas for workshops with local financial institutions and business communities. Taoiseach Micheál Martin attended the opening on 29 January 2026.

John O'Beirne, CEO of Square International at Block, said: "Dublin is the natural home for Block's European growth. This office represents more than a physical space - it's a statement of our commitment to the region and our belief in the transformative power of financial technology."

Michael Lohan, CEO of IDA Ireland, said: "This highlights Ireland's reputation as a leading location for financial services companies, offering skilled talent and a thriving innovation ecosystem."

The expansion reinforces Ireland's position as a strategic hub for international technology firms. Block's Dublin presence provides access to skilled workforce, research and development infrastructure, and regulatory frameworks supporting financial services innovation across European markets.

The facility will serve as Block's primary operational base for managing European growth, product development and partnership engagement with regional financial institutions. The hub is expected to drive innovation in digital payments and strengthen Block's competitive position across European fintech markets.
