Japanese technology company NTT DATA has opened a new Dublin office as part of a €16.5 million investment in Ireland, directed primarily toward AI and digital services research and development in association with business and academic institutions.

The announcement, reported by IDA Ireland, follows the creation of 100 jobs in Ireland since January 2025, expanding the company's Ireland-based workforce by nearly 50%, with plans to recruit a further 50 staff over the coming six months.

NTT DATA's Irish client base includes insurance companies, banks and telecoms firms such as Three Ireland and eir. The new office is intended to support continued growth across these sectors while expanding enterprise adoption of AI responsibly and at scale.

Niccolo Spataro, Executive Managing Director for UK and Ireland at NTT DATA, said: "The organisations that move decisively on AI will define their industries for years to come, and we intend to be the partner that helps Ireland's leading enterprises do exactly that."

The opening ceremony featured technical demonstrations including a presentation by R&D partner Trinity College Dublin on IOWN, Innovative Optical and Wireless Network technology, capable of generating 100 times greater power efficiency, 125 times greater capacity and latency of one two-hundredth of current end-to-end levels, enabling data-intensive services to scale without proportional increases in energy consumption.

A further demonstration from Kinia, an education-focused social enterprise and NTT DATA partner in Ireland, highlighted the company's focus on building AI skills among young people.

Michael Lohan, CEO of IDA Ireland, said: "NTT DATA's focus on research and development strengthens the wider technology ecosystem deepening collaboration with Irish talent and academia and driving innovation that will benefit businesses and communities across the country."

The Dublin office opening follows NTT DATA's acquisition of Northern Ireland-based Alchemy Technology Services in October 2025, which strengthened the company's global insurance technology capabilities. NTT DATA operates across 70 countries and describes itself as a global leader in AI, digital business and technology services.
