Irish health-tech company Spectrum.Life has acquired Dr Jay, a Paris-based start-up known for its AI therapy companion.

The move integrates Dr Jay’s behavioural intelligence into Spectrum.Life’s digital platform Cara, enhancing the delivery of scalable, safe, and human-centred AI mental health support across workplaces, universities, and healthcare providers.

Dr Jay, founded by Anton Vorobev, offers an AI companion designed to provide “human-like counselling.” Its efficacy has been validated through a randomised control trial in the UK, which reported significant improvements in anxiety and depression symptoms.

“At Dr Jay, we set out to build AI tools that make care more consistent, more responsive and more human,” said CEO Vorobev. “Joining with Spectrum.Life lets us realise that vision on a global scale, inside a company that shares our belief in clinically grounded, ethical, human-first technology.”

Spectrum.Life supports thousands of organisations in Ireland and the UK with digital mental health and wellbeing solutions. The company has experienced substantial revenue growth in 2023 and 2024, with most new business generated outside Ireland, positioning it for further international expansion.

Dr Jay’s AI will be embedded within Cara, Spectrum.Life’s clinically governed digital companion designed to help users manage emotions and maintain wellbeing. Cara provides guided chat support and escalates at-risk cases to 24/7 clinical professionals, creating a “true mental health companion” experience.

“Dr Jay’s technology and team strengthen how we use AI to make support more accessible and more personal, without losing the human connection that defines good care,” said Stephen Costello, CEO and co-founder of Spectrum.Life. “Our focus remains on using clinically grounded AI to augment care, not automate it, helping clinicians, coaches and users achieve better outcomes, together.”
