Amazon Web Services (AWS), a US-based cloud computing provider, is expanding its programmes in the Philippines to accelerate digital transformation among micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), according to a report by Manila Bulletin.

The move addresses growing demand for cloud and AI adoption as businesses seek productivity gains and improved customer engagement.

MSMEs across the Philippines are increasingly adopting cloud infrastructure and artificial intelligence to remain competitive in a digital economy. AWS is responding by scaling training, cost-support initiatives, and ecosystem partnerships to reduce barriers to entry for smaller organisations.

A core component of the expansion is skills development through platforms such as AWS Skill Builder. These programmes aim to equip entrepreneurs, developers, and IT professionals with capabilities in AI tools, cloud systems, and real-world applications, regardless of technical maturity. AWS is also working with local partners to extend digital literacy beyond Metro Manila into regional markets, including Mindanao.

Cost remains a constraint for many MSMEs transitioning to the cloud. AWS is addressing this through migration support programmes designed to offset “double running costs” during the shift from legacy systems to cloud environments. These initiatives include system assessments, secure cloud setup, and workload migration, helping businesses adopt digital infrastructure with reduced financial risk.

For organisations already operating in the cloud, the focus has shifted to optimisation. AWS and its partners are supporting businesses in refining infrastructure to achieve up to 30% annual cost efficiency improvements, strengthening long-term sustainability of digital investments.

AI adoption is also evolving from customer-facing tools such as chatbots to more structured internal frameworks. Businesses are increasingly building internal AI environments to test, scale, and govern applications across operations, including software development and business process outsourcing.
