Viatel Technology Group has acquired UK network infrastructure specialist EDNX, strengthening its position as Ireland's largest secure network provider and accelerating expansion across the UK market. Viatel, an Ireland-headquartered technology services group backed by Macquarie Capital investment, provides connectivity, digital services, managed IT and cybersecurity across Ireland and the UK.

EDNX brings deep technical expertise across enterprise networking, network infrastructure, campus networks, secure IoT, Wi-Fi, SD-WAN, SD-Access and application-centric infrastructure, with a client base spanning leading pharmaceutical companies and many NHS Trusts, where network reliability, security and performance are critical operational requirements.

The acquisition follows Viatel's purchase of Scottish cybersecurity consultancy FullProxy in July, which itself followed the earlier acquisition of Belfast-based Cybit Cyber, marking Viatel's third UK cybersecurity and infrastructure deal within roughly a year and underlining the pace at which the group is building out its combined offering.

The acquisition significantly strengthens Viatel's Cisco practice, bringing together two Cisco Premier Partners with deep expertise in enterprise networking. Combined with Viatel's existing capabilities across cybersecurity, managed services and AI, the enlarged group is positioned to support public and private sector organisations across Ireland and the UK. Eoghan Browne of A&L Goodbody and Gareth Cosgrove of Grant Thornton acted as advisors to Viatel on the transaction.

The structural driver is Viatel's sequential acquisition strategy of pairing cybersecurity consultancies with network infrastructure specialists, building a combined capability stack that regulated clients increasingly require as a single integrated offering rather than separate vendor relationships across security, connectivity and compliance.

For the sector, this signals consolidation among UK and Irish network and cybersecurity providers as demand grows from regulated industries preparing for NIS2 compliance and AI governance requirements, with acquirers targeting specialists whose credentials in mission-critical sectors are difficult to replicate organically.
